Young Debuts Denied as Danville Laments Last-Minute Fixture Postponement
Unfortunately, Saturday’s fixture against Normanton Knights has been postponed after they informed us, they were unable to field a team last night (Thurs 2nd July) at 7:00pm
It’s obviously disappointing and, if I’m honest, frustrating. It feels like we’re seeing more and more games postponed across the league, leaving a growing backlog of fixtures. This postponement was forced upon us unfortunately at the last minute
Rather than look for a postponement ourselves, we worked hard to put together a competitive squad. Several of our Under-18s and academy players were set to make the step up, special mentions to Finn Watson and Brad Johnson who would have been making their first team debuts, plus others stepping up, it would have been a great opportunity for them to test themselves at this level.
There are growing concerns in what is the first season under the new league restructure. It certainly feels like we’re seeing more postponed and cancelled fixtures than ever before, and with no real consequences for teams not fulfilling fixtures where does it end? I believe that’s something that needs looking at for the good of the competition next season and beyond!
We’ll regroup, continue to prepare well, and look forward to getting back out on the field next week as we travel to Bentley.
In the meantime I hope everyone else reading this enjoys the weekend of rugby down in Everton at magic weekend which is set up to be belter!
Cheers
Danno
